Sophomore Honors Scholar Designation
The Sophomore Honors Scholar Designation recognizes Honors
students who participate in the Honors Program both academically and
outside of the classroom. During the freshmen and sophomore years,
Honors students may choose to work toward the requirements of the
designation through Honors coursework and participation in Honors
Program events.
Requirements:
To earn the Sophomore Honors Scholar designation, you must
complete either Option A or Option B. The option you choose will depend
on when you entered the Honors Program.
Both plans incorporate participating in some Honors
Experiences, and all requirements must be completed by the end of the
second year.
Option A
This option is for students who start in the Honors Program the first semester of their freshman year.
- Earn 12 hours of Honors credit with grades of A or B. At least 6 hours must be through honors sections of courses.
- Successfully complete Honors Freshman Seminar (IDS 102.17) or Presidential Scholars Freshman Seminar (IDS 102.70) with an A or B
- Earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4 at the end of the fourth semester
- Be in good standing in the Honors Program
- Attend three events that are designated as counting for
the Sophomore designation. Students are encouraged to choose a variety
of events to ensure a well-rounded experience.
Option B
For students starting in the Honors Program second semester freshman year or first semester sophomore year.
- Earn 12 hours of Honors credit with grades of A or B. At least 6 hours must be through honors sections.
- Earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4 at
the end of the fourth semester and be in good standing in the Honors
Program.
- Attend four events that are designated as counting for
the Sophomore designation. Students are encouraged to choose a variety
of events to ensure a well-rounded experience.
Events for the Sophomore Designation
- The Honors Program will host a variety of events each
semester that all students are welcome to attend and that freshmen and
sophomores may count as an event for the designation.
- Events are posted on the Honors website and are announced
via the Honors listserv. Students should read their email and refer to
the website to plan to attend events.
- Unless otherwise noted, students will fill out an attendance slip at the conclusion of the event.

Procedure
- Submit the Sophomore Designation form to the Honors Office by the last day of finals in the spring semester of sophomore year.

Please note: Students who have earned
credit through AP exams or transfer courses may be classified as a
junior before the end of their second year on campus. In that case,
the first four semesters on campus may be used to meet the
requirements for the designation.
