Honors Program Scholar

Participation in the Honors Program allows students to earn the special "Honors Program Scholar" designation. The designation is indicated on student transcripts and in the Commencement Booklet. Honors Program Scholars also wear a red cord at Commencement. (Students will be contacted prior to Commencement to pick up their cords.)

There is no application process for this designation. Qualifying students will be awarded the designation automatically if they meet the criteria.

Requirements

In order to receive this honor, students must meet the following conditions:

  • Participate in the Honors Program a minimum of 3 semesters. This may include the semester of graduation.
  • Earn a minimum of 9 hours of Honors credit with grades of A or B. This may also include the semester of graduation.
  • Earn a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA
  • Complete 3 hours of Honors credit each semester you are in the program, including the semester in which you will graduate.

The only exceptions to the "3 hours per semester" requirement are: student teaching, study abroad, National Student Exchange, full-time internships or co-op experiences. You are also exempt if you have completed 24 hours of honors credit.

Summer term is not a qualifying semester for the participation credit. Students may petition the Honors Program, providing a compelling rationale, for an exception.
