Honors Program Scholar with Merit

Participation in the Honors Program allows students to earn the special "Honors Program Scholar with Merit" designation. The designation is indicated on student transcripts and in the Commencement Booklet. This honor was previously known as Certificate in University Honors.

Requirements

In order to receive this honor, a student must meet the following conditions:

  • Earn a 3.5 - 4.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Participate in the Honors Program a minimum of four semesters. Summer term does not qualify unless the student can provide a compelling rationale for an exception.
  • Earn a minimum of 12 hours of Honors coursework with grades of "A" or "B." Credit / no credit courses are not acceptable for Honors coursework.
  • Complete one of the following Honors experiences:
    • Advanced Honors Colloquium (IDS 202.XX)
    • Undergraduate Research Participation (IDS 285 or IDS 286, at least 3 hours)
    • Independent Honors Study (299, at least 3 hours)
    • Honors Thesis (IDS 395, at least 3 hours)
  • Remain in good standing with the Honors program
  • Complete 3 hours of Honors credit each semester the student is in the program, including the semester in which the student will graduate.
  • Designation Form

The only exceptions to the "3 hours per semester" requirement are: student teaching, study abroad, National Student Exchange, full-time internships or co-op experiences. You are also exempt if you have completed 24 hours of honors credit.
